Privacy Policy

City Search & Local ("CSL," "we," "us") is built by City Print. CSL lets you search and learn about the places around you. This policy explains, in plain English, what we collect when you use the site, how we use it, and the choices you have. Our goal is to be open with you, not to bury the truth in fine print.

What we collect

What we collect depends on how you use CSL:

  • Place information — names, addresses, hours, categories, and other details about the places we cover. This comes from public sources and our own systems, and is shown to everyone who visits.
  • Usage data — the pages you visit and the searches you run, which helps us understand what's working and make CSL better.
  • Information you send us — if you use a contact form or email us, we receive your message and the email address you send it from.

How we use it

  • To run CSL — showing you places and search results, and helping you find what you need to know about being somewhere.
  • To respond to you — answering questions and messages you send us.
  • To improve — we use aggregated, non-identifying activity to refine CSL and make it more useful.

How we share information

We rely on a small number of service providers to operate CSL — for example, cloud hosting and infrastructure that store and serve the site and its data on our behalf. They may use your information only to provide those services to us. Some pages also load resources such as web fonts and maps from third-party content networks; when your browser requests those, the provider receives your device's IP address as a normal part of loading them.

With your consent, we also use Google Analytics to understand how CSL is used and Google's advertising tools to support personalized ads. These may set cookies and share information — such as device identifiers and your activity on CSL — with Google, and can involve cross-context behavioral advertising. Analytics and advertising only run if you allow them: choose "Reject non-essential" in our cookie banner, or turn off the Analytics and Advertising categories under Cookie preferences at any time. That choice also serves as your opt-out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for these purposes under laws such as California's CPRA.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users, the public, or CSL.

Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and browser localStorage for basic functionality: remembering your preferences and anything you save (like favorites) so the site works smoothly. With your consent, we also use analytics and advertising cookies (including Google's); you can manage these anytime through our cookie banner.

Data retention

We keep information only as long as it's needed for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law, with retention periods we set by data type, and we delete or de-identify it when it's no longer needed. If you've sent us personal information — like a message through a contact form — you can ask us to delete it. Where you have a legal right to erasure (see "Your choices and rights"), we'll delete or de-identify your personal information on request, unless the law permits or requires us to keep it.

Your choices and rights

You can reach us any time to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to ask us to delete it, and we'll honor the requests that apply to you under your local data-protection laws. To make a request, email privacy@citysearchlocal.com and let us know where you're located so we can help.

Children's privacy

CSL is not directed to children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 — or under the minimum age set by local law, which is higher in some places (for example, 16 in parts of the EU and UK). If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as CSL grows. When we do, we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll do our best to flag it clearly.
