Privacy Policy
City Search & Local ("CSL," "we," "us") is built by City Print. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what control you have over it. We've written this in plain English because nobody should need a law degree to understand how their data is handled.
What we collect
We collect different types of information depending on how you use CSL:
- Business profile information — business name, address, phone number, hours, categories, and photos. Most of this comes from publicly available sources (see below).
- Account information — when you claim a listing, we collect your email address and basic contact details.
- Usage data — pages you visit, features you use, and general browsing patterns. This helps us understand what's working and what isn't.
- Review data — we aggregate publicly available reviews from platforms like Google, Facebook, and Yelp to generate scores and insights.
How we use it
- To provide the service — generating Storefront Scores, showing review insights, and powering your dashboard.
- To send digests — weekly email updates about new reviews, score changes, and competitor activity. You can unsubscribe anytime.
- To improve scores — we use aggregated, anonymized data to refine our scoring methodology and make recommendations more accurate.
- To communicate — service updates, feature announcements, and responses to your support requests.
Pre-populated business profiles
We pre-populate business profiles using publicly available data from Google and other public directories. This means your business may already have a profile on CSL even if you haven't signed up. We do this so business owners can see their score and claim their listing without starting from scratch.
If you want your business removed from CSL, contact us at privacy@citysearchlocal.com and we'll take it down.
Third-party services
- Google Places API — we use Google's API to retrieve business data, reviews, and location information.
- Analytics — we use standard analytics tools to understand site traffic and usage patterns. This data is aggregated and doesn't identify you personally.
Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and browser localStorage for basic functionality: keeping you logged in, remembering your preferences, and storing session data. We don't use cookies for third-party advertising or cross-site tracking.
Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal information within 30 days. Aggregated, anonymized data (like average scores by category) may be retained indefinitely.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Request your data — ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Delete your account — request that we remove your account and associated personal data.
- Opt out of emails — unsubscribe from digests and marketing emails at any time.
- Correct your information — update or fix any inaccurate data in your profile.
